Your Sunday morning dose of Mets and Major League Baseball news, notes, and links.

Meet the Mets

The Mets are clearly in need of an upgrade in a corner outfield this winter. While several teams are interested in veteran outfielder Torii Hunter, but the Mets are not one of those teams, says Marc Carig.

Speaking of outfielders, Joel Sherman thinks Yasmany Tomas would be a good fit for the Mets this winter. While that would be a pleasant surprise, it would definitely be a surprise.

Former Mets outfielder Chris Young has re-signed with the Yankees. He finished his season with the team after the Mets released him and hit .282/.354/.521 with a 146 wRC+ in 79 plate appearances for them.

Around the National League East

The Marlins are expected to pursue starting pitching on the free agent—and potentially trade—market this winter. Gee for Stanton, get it done, Sandy!

While there is a chance the Braves could non-tender Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy this winter because of their injury histories, it sounds like the team is leaning towards at least bringing Medlen back.

Around Major League Baseball

Marc Normandin writes that Alex Rodriguez—for all the distraction he might be—could still be pretty good at baseball.

Where will Jon Lester end up this winter? Grant Brisbee takes a look.

Fangraphs has a set of free agent predictions for the offseason, though there are no specific Mets predictions included here.
