The Red Sox continued their busy offseason by trading Yoenis Cespedes to the Tigers. In return, they received pitcher Rick Porcello.
Cespedes is 28 years old and coming off a season in which he hit .260/.301/.751 with 22 home runs and 3.4 fWAR. He split his 2014 season between the Oakland A's and Red Sox as he was traded in the middle of the season. He is under contract through 2015.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Porcello is coming off the best season of his career. He posted a 3.43 ERA over 204.2 innings and 31 starts and was worth 3.1 fWAR. He is under team control through 2016.
Cespedes might have been an option for the Mets as a trade target in their search to upgrade at a corner outfield spot, but that possibility went out the window when the Mets signed Michael Cuddyer to a two-year, $21 million deal last month.
