The Oakland Athletics have made yet another trade, sending catcher Derek Norris, right-handed pitcher Seth Streich, and an international signing slot to the San Diego Padres for right-handed pitcher Jesse Hahn—who went to high school with Matt Harvey—and right-handed pitcher R.J. Alvarez. Both teams have been incredibly active on the trade market this winter.
While the other players are not insignificant, the big names here are Norris and Hahn. Norris was part of the A's' catching triumvirate in 2014 and hit .270/.361/.403 with a 122 wRC+ in 442 plate appearances. The 25-year-old Hahn made his major league debut this season and had a 3.07 ERA and 3.40 ERA in fourteen appearances, all but two of which were starts.
As for the other players, Alvarez spent the season in Double-A as a 23-year-old this year and had a 1.25 ERA working strictly as a relief pitcher. Streich is also 23 years old, but he spent this season in High-A as a starting pitcher and had a 3.16 ERA in 114 innings of work.
