New, comments

Your Wednesday morning dose of New York Mets and Major League Baseball news, notes, and links.

Meet the Mets

Eric Young Jr is an ex-Met now, as the team non-tendered him last night. Young was the team's only casualty, as Ruben Tejada and the rest of the arbitration eligible crew received contracts.

Daniel Murphy is still on the Mets roster and if the trade offers don't improve, he'll stay on the roster.

While Tejada is still on the roster, the Mets are still going to look at shortstop options and Andy Martino suggested Deven Marrero of the Red Sox. Eh.

Is Mike Piazza headed to the Hall of Fame? The man himself answered that question.

Mark Simon reviewed some of the best singles in Mets history.

A trio of Mets first round draft picks could be ready to break out.

Around the NL East

The Braves supposedly have serious interest in outfielder Nick Markakis.

Yasmany Tomas is a Diamondback now but the aging Phillies never even made the Cuban slugger an offer.

Jose Fernandez received a contract extension offer from the Marlins, which he's likely to turn down. The main reason is that his agent is Scott Boras.

The Nationals appear to be in similar territory with Boras and Bryce Harper except they may have to battle over a contract stipulation.

Around the Majors

Here's the full non-tender tracker, in case you'd like to keep up with the entire list. Among players on the list who could be mildly interesting: former Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera.

MLB umpire Dale Scott came out as gay, making him the first official in the four big US sports to come out.

Torii Hunter is returning to the Twins on a one year deal, while Matt Belisle signed a one year deal with the Cardinals.

The Dodgers and Reds swapped outfielder Chris Heisey for pitcher Matt Magill.
