Mets Stat Of The Day: Fourth-inning magic

If there was one inning Mets fans should have stayed in their seats for in 2013, it was the fourth inning.

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

It is common for hitters to fare better against pitchers the more that they see them. The Mets found their greatest hitting success in 2013 seeing pitchers the second time around, leading to some fourth-inning offensive magic. They scored more runs in the fourth inning than in any other inning. sOPS+ measures OPS in a particular split relative to how the rest of the league performed in that situation. The Mets were one of the best teams in baseball finding the scoreboard in the fourth inning.
