The Los Angeles Angels and Mike Trout have agreed to a sixy-year, $144.5 million extension just one day after Miguel Cabrera signed an eight-year, $248 million extension with the Tigers. Trout's extension begins next season.
Of course, Trout burst onto the major league scene with a 10.0 fWAR season in 2012. He somehow followed that up with an even better 2013. For his career, he's a .314/.404/.544 hitter and has stolen 86 bases while being caught just 12 times. Throw in very good defense in the outfield, and it's not hard to see why the Angels wanted to lock him up.
Barring another extension, Trout will become a free agent at the age of 29. If you were dreaming of seeing Trout in a Mets uniform sometime, perhaps the longer the wait, the better the odds. For the next seven seasons, however, at least he'll be playing his game for a team that rarely plays against the Mets.
