Although the Mets got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, they lost to the Nationals again this evening. Bartolo Colon gave up three runs in six innings of work. The first came on back-to-back doubles in the fourth inning, and a pair of solo of home runs by Ian Desmond and Gio Gonzalez in the fifth accounted for the second and third.
Gonzalez Germen allowed a run in the seventh before pitching a scoreless eighth, and Kyle Farnsworth allowed one run, the Nationals’ fifth of the game, in the ninth.
Juan Lagares scored the Mets' lone run of the game after tripling to begin the bottom of the first. The team's best opportunity to score another run came on a two-out double in the bottom of the fifth, but Ruben Tejada was thrown out at home plate as he tried to score from first on the play.
