Final Score: Mets 6, Phillies 1—Four games over .500 for the first time in a long time

After a rain delay, the Mets beat the Phillies to open what's scheduled to be a two-game series.

John Geliebter-USA TODAY Sports

After an 85-minute rain delay, the Mets beat the Cole Hamels and Phillies this evening. Mets hitters scored six runs on eight hits against Hamels in just four-and-two-thirds innings of work, and Jon Niese gave up just one run on four hits in seven innings.

Daniel Murphy got the scoring started with a two-out single to plate Ruben Tejada in the third. Josh Satin drove in run number two with a single in the fourth, and Niese drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the Mets’ third run in the same inning. In the fifth, a Chris Young double scored the Mets’ fourth run, and a Ruben Tejada single brought home runs five and six.

After Niese departed, Daisuke Matsuzaka threw a scoreless eighth inning, and Jose Valverde worked a scoreless ninth to finish off the win.
