On the occasion of Atlanta's home opener—a night that began with a tribute to Hank Aaron and the 40th anniversary of his record-breaking 715th homer—offense was at a premium. The Mets took the early lead without benefit of a hit in the top of the third when Ruben Tejada walked and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch. They could do nothing else against old friend Aaron Harang through six innings, but scored twice against the Atlanta bullpen in the seventh with RBI hits from Tejada and Eric Young and once more in the eighth on another Tejada RBI.
Bartolo Colon was efficient and effective tonight, allowing six harmless hits through seven innings (five of them singles) while fanning five and walking none. I believe that officially qualifies as "scattering." Kyle Farnsworth and Jose Valverde combined for two scoreless, though Valverde did his best to spot the Braves a few runs.
Full recap to come.
