Jacob deGrom impressed in his MLB debut, both on the mound and at the plate. Unfortunately, the Mets didn't score any runs against and lost 1-0. deGrom pitched seven innings, allowing one run on four hits. Alfonso Soriano's RBI double in the seventh inning accounted for the only run of the game. deGrom struck out six and walked four, and also notched his first base hit and executed a sacrifice bunt. Nice debut!
The Mets managed just four hits and struck out 14 times against four Yankees pitchers. Dellin Betances struck out six in 2.1 innings of work and David Robertson struck out two in 1.1 innings to close it out.
The Mets start a three-game weekend series against the Nationals in DC on Friday at 7:05 pm. The pitching matchup is Jon Niese vs Tanner Roark.
