The Mets finally beat the Diamondbacks, as they took the doubleheader and series finale 4-2 this evening. Daisuke Matsuzaka gave up just two runs in six innings in his spot start, and he struck out six and walked just one in the process. The Mets’ bullpen shut the Diamondbacks down through the end of the game, which was pitched by Jenrry Mejia, who pitched in both games of the doubleheader.
At the plate, the Matsuzaka drove in the Mets’ first run of the game with a bloop single in the second inning. Bobby Abreu tied the game at two with a double in the fifth, and the Mets took the lead on a Ruben Tejada single in the sixth. And Daniel Murphy tacked on a run by driving in Chris Young in the eighth.
With the victory, the Mets avoided an embarrassing sweep, and they are now 22-27 on the season.
