The 2014 Home Run Derby is taking place tonight starting around 8:00 p.m. at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Make sure you familiarize yourself with the new rules and bracket-style format. Here are your starting lineups:
National League Lineup
Troy Tulowitzki, Rockies (Captain): 21 home runs in 2014, 13/2 Vegas odds
Todd Frazier, Reds: 19 home runs in 2014, 12/1 Vegas odds
Justin Morneau, Rockies: 13 home runs in 2014, 15/1 Vegas odds
Yasiel Puig, Dodgers: 12 home runs in 2014, 6/1 Vegas odds
Giancarlo Stanton, Marlins: 21 home runs in 2014, 2/1 Vegas odds
American League Lineup
Jose Bautista, Blue Jays (Captain): 17 home runs in 2014, 5/1 Vegas odds
Josh Donaldson, Athletics: 20 home runs in 2014, 10/1 Vegas odds
Brian Dozier, Twins: 18 home runs in 2014, 12/1 Vegas odds
Adam Jones, Orioles: 16 home runs in 2014, 12/1 Vegas odds
Yoenis Cespedes, Athletics: 14 home runs in 2014, 5/1 Vegas odds
Who should you root for?
Morneau has the longest odds, but he was a longtime Twin and should have the home crowd going for him. On the other hand, Frazier grew up in New Jersey and might be a favorite of Mets fans in the Garden State. Tulowitzki has been linked to the Amazins, but only in rumors so far. Meanwhile, Puig and Stanton are arguably the two most entertaining players in the contest. The farther they get, the better the chance of something spectacular happening.
As for the American League, Dozier will get a boost from the home crowd and could be fun to root for. As a middle infielder, he's not your prototypical slugger. Cespedes put on quite a show at Citi Field last year and will be aiming for his second straight crown. His teammate Donaldson is an up-and-coming star who flies under the radar on the east coast. Jones and Bautista both play against the Yankees with regularity, and they seem like likable guys to boot.
Enjoy the festivities, everyone! Go baseball!
