Dillon Gee got his first win in the month of August, and the Mets utilized some stellar defense to win 3-2 over the Braves at Citi Field.
The Mets got to Braves starter Alex Wood early tonight. After a seamless first inning, Ruben Tejada drove in the Mets first run in the second, and Juan Lagares put the Mets ahead for good in the fourth with his second home run in his last three games. Lagares' homer came in addition to some of his customarily stellar play in the field, including a diving catch to end the top of the third that should remind everyone everywhere why this man deserves a Gold Glove.
Gee pitched well, only running into real trouble in the fourth and seventh innings, in each of which he allowed a run. Despite that, he induced several double plays, and issued only one walk, though he struck out only one. All in all, it was a solid game for the Mets starter.
Jeurys Familia and Jenrry Meija came on to hold the Braves scoreless for the rest of the night and give Gee a much-needed victory.
