The Mets nearly came back to beat the Braves with Craig Kimbrel on the mound, but after getting two men on against him with nobody out in the ninth and down just one run, Terry Collins opted to have Wilmer Flores sacrifice bunt with Ruben Tejada on deck. The Braves played the infield in, Tejada hit a ground ball, and Eric Campbell was thrown out by a wide margin at home plate. And one pop up later, the game was over.
Of course, there was more to the game than that. Zack Wheeler gave up three runs—two earned—in seven innings. That unearned run scored when Tejada made a two-out error on a routine ground ball in the third inning.
As for the scoring: Jason Heyward led off the game with a home run, the Mets answered with one in the second, Wheeler gave up two in the third, and the Mets scored once in the eighth. These games don't matter to the Mets at this point, but it was still an unpleasant game.
Oh, and Andrelton Simmons made a ridiculously great play to end the bottom of the eighth on a play that would have tied the game at three if he had not. So there was that, too.
