Final Score: Mets 5, Braves 0—Wheeler and the bullpen shut down the Braves

Lucas Duda homered for the first time in eons and the Mets took the first of this three game set from Braves.

The bad news: with the Pirates victory, the Mets are statistically eliminated from playoff contention. The good news: the Mets beat the Braves tonight 5-0 at Turner Field, and that always makes a Mets fan's day a little brighter.

After not scoring for the first six innings against Braves starter Julio Teheran, the Mets finally got on the board when Lucas Duda smacked a home run over the right field fence to plate Daniel Murphy and put the Mets up 2-0. The Amazins added three more in the ninth against the Braves' bullpen, when Dilson Herrera walked with the bases loaded against Jordan Walden to make the score 3-0. Eric Young Jr. followed shortly thereafter with a single that added two more runs to the Mets tally, and put the game well out of reach for the Braves.

After a pretty disastrous start against the Nationals last week, Zack Wheeler struck out seven, walked two, and held the Braves scoreless over the course of six innings tonight, though he never made it look easy. Indeed, it took him 63 pitches to make it through the first three innings. However, after the fifth, the Braves never had another baserunner, thanks to the combined efforts of Wheeler and the Mets bullpen.
