Mets trade rumors: Dillon Gee talks still happening

The Mets have not given up their effort to deal the veteran righty.

During the winter meetings, rumors surfaced about the Mets' inclination to trade a starting pitcher, preferably Dillon Gee. The Mets and Colorado Rockies discussed a trade involving the right-hander. Things have mostly been quiet on that front since then. But according to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News, the Mets are still working at it, as Gee was part of a potential three-team trade discussion last week.

Gee is coming off a subpar 2014 in which he had a 4.00 ERA. Right now, he is potentially the weakest link among a strong starting five for the Mets. His days in Queens appeared to be numbered, considering Sandy Alderson's preference to trade a starter before spring training.

The other teams involved in the discussions Martino mentions are not known, nor is it known how close to fruition the deal came. Since the beginning of the offseason, a trade of a veteran starter has seemingly been inevitable. Perhaps one is coming in the near future.
