Led by an incredibly gutsy performance from Jacob deGrom and monstrous offensive night from Daniel Murphy, the Mets defeated the Dodgers 3-2 to win the fifth game of the NLDS and advance to face the Cubs in the NLCS. deGrom, who had already allowed two runs before recording two outs in the first, fought through six innings, consistenly working around Dodgers in scoring position. Murphy, meanwhile, drove in the Mets' first run with a double in the first, scored their second run after taking third on a heads-up baserunning play in the fourth, and had the game-winning RBI with his third home run of the series in the sixth.
The win prolongs what has been a magical Mets season for at least four more games. Fittingly, Jeurys Familia retired Chase Utley in his 1-2-3 ninth inning, polishing off the Mets' revenge in the best way possible. Matt Harvey is now slated to face Jon Lester and the Cubs on Saturday at Citi Field.
