The Mets have announced that 23-year-old rookie Noah Syndergaard will start Game 2 of the National League Championship Series against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday night. Syndergaard most recently pitched in Game 5 of the NLDS against the Dodgers on Thursday, when he threw one scoreless inning of relief to bridge the gap between Jacob deGrom and Jeurys Familia.
Syndergaard also started Game 2 of the NLDS, He was dominant through six innings, but he recorded one out in the sixth before turning things over to the bullpen. Chase Utley's garbage slide turned the tide of that inning and game, and Syndergaard wound up getting charged with three runs in his outing.
In total, Syndergaard had a 3.68 ERA with 11 strikeouts and 5 walks in 7.1 innings in the NLDS. In the regular season, he had a 3.24 ERA and 3.25 FIP in 150 innings after getting promoted to the big leagues early in the year.
