This Week in Mets Quotes: Mets thoughts on the Royals, Syndergaard is 100% confident the Mets will win

Lots of interesting, funny, idiotic, and insightful things were said by the Mets—and about them—recently. Here are some of our favorites.

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports

This.

"I’m so thankful that I am still here. I believe that everything happens for a reason. This is the reason." -Wilmer Flores [New York Post]

Neither can Mets fans.

"We’re playing well right now. This is my first full season, and I’m going to the World Series. I mean, I’m just going to go out there and play and see how everything comes out. I am so excited, I can’t wait." -Wilmer Flores [New York Post]

What do the Mets think of their World Series competition?

"They never stop coming, and what a great characteristic to have for a ballclub." -Daniel Murphy [New York Post]

"We’re playing a team that has a comparable payroll, so if anything I think this is some evidence money is not absolute king." -Sandy Alderson [New York Post]

"They are very good offensively. Because of their park they may not have the big power numbers some teams have, but they have got power. They are not a team that walks a lot, but they don’t strikeout a lot either, which means they are going to put the ball in play, which means your defense has to step up." -Terry Collins [New York Post]

"They are a young team and they are a team that plays hard and they will play until the end, they enjoy playing, but I think the way our team is playing right now it’s going to make for a very interesting World Series." -Yoenis Cespedes [New York Post]

With all the accolades for the Royals, I hope the Mets are at least 60% confident.

"I’m 100 percent confident. One hundred percent." -Noah Syndergaard [New York Post]

For anyone worrying about Cespedes's shoulder injury.

"I'll be fine by Sunday. If not I'll chop it off and put a new (arm) on." -Yoenis Cespedes [Twitter]

This is the most Lucas Duda quote of the year…

"It's been a long time since I contributed anything offensively. So it's definitely nice. It's the postseason and you expect to get great pitching. It didn't seem to affect Daniel Murphy too much. It's nice to contribute." -Lucas Duda [ESPN]

...nope, this takes it.

"My dad’s always positive. My mom, she doesn’t really care if I struggle or not. She’s going to love me no matter what, I think. Or I hope." -Lucas Duda [New York Times]

For a season with so many great moments, @wefollowlucasduda is among the best.

"We’ve got him in some incriminating spots. He’s like, ‘My mom’s going to see that!’ I said: ‘Exactly! Your mom’s going to see it and love it!’" -Curtis Granderson [New York Times]

October is hunting season.

"All the credit goes to Daniel [Murphy]. He stuck with it and truly believed. … He always says it, ‘I’m not hunting for hits anymore, I’m hunting to do damage.’ And there’s a big difference." -Kevin Long [NJ.com]

While coaches do seem to get too much credit when things are good and too much blame when things are bad, but the Mets hiring Kevin Long sure seems like the right move.

"[Long] had broken down everybody’s swing, I think that was going into spring training. So, when you have somebody in the offseason who has gone through that much film to prepare himself to get to know you to prepare himself for spring training for the season, I feel like you almost have no choice automatically but to just buy in because you know he’s buying in and he’s all in." -Daniel Murphy [New York Post]

I imagine Murph and Long have never had a conversation not about hitting.

"He sent me some video about, ‘I think you can use your legs a little more, you put your foot down, you’re late.’ I said, ‘This guy is talking my language, because I have been. I’ve spent my entire career late to the ball.’ So it really was a great starting of a relationship between me and him personally and we were talking the same language and then you see how prepared he was and the preparation he puts in and when I go down to the cage and ask him about the Royals bullpen, I know he’s going to have all the answers to my questions and there’s a level of peace to that."" -Daniel Murphy [New York Post]

For those who wanted to know what planet Daniel Murphy is from.

"Earth. Planet Earth." -Daniel Murphy [ESPN]

If you have a chance to hang out with Juan Uribe, you take it.

"We’re going to take [Juan Uribe to Kansas City] anyway because he’s been to this dance before and I think his presence in the clubhouse and on the bench would be huge." -Terry Collins [New York Post]

Feel bad for those players that play in the AL, they’ll never achieve their dreams.

"Obviously, we’re on the biggest stage. This has been my dream. This has been everybody’s dream. Everybody has always dreamed of winning the NLCS and going to the World Series." -Michael Conforto [New York Post]

The Captain has the floor.

"It’s a long time coming. We’ve been through some bad times. We’ve been through Septembers where you’re just playing out the schedule, and that’s no fun. To be able to completely reverse that -- 180 -- and now celebrate and get a chance to go to the World Series, I wish I could bottle it up. I really do. That’s an emotion that I’ll never forget. This is one of the best days ever for me." -David Wright [ESPN]

"I had faith in what Sandy was going to do. I had faith in what this organization was going to do. I had faith in these starting pitchers that were being hyped so much. And I truly believed that this organization was going to turn it around, and that I wanted to be a part of that. There’s no describing what it feels like to win in New York. I’ve had a small sample of that. A larger sample now. To be able to do this here means the world to me. It wouldn’t even come close doing it somewhere else. So, to me, it was a no-brainer." -David Wright [ESPN]

SiteBot FacePalm of the Week

"RBIs are another stat with no useful value for evaluating players." -Russ

"You got it.Let’s just put Campbell and Cecilliani back in the lineup, cause you know RBI’s are not important." -focker5183
