The Mets dropped Game 2 of the World Series, 7-1, as Jacob deGrom and the bullpen faltered against the Royals' lineup. deGrom started out strong, but things unraveled for him in the fifth inning. The Royals pushed across four runs to surge ahead of the Mets on singles by Alcides Escobar, Eric Hosmer, and Mike Moustakas. deGrom left after the fifth, and the combination of Hansel Robles and Jon Niese kept the Royals off the board until the eighth inning. In the eighth, the Royals added three more runs on hits by Moustakas, Paulo Orlando, and Escobar.

The Mets scored their only run in the fourth inning. With two men on, Lucas Duda singled on a soft liner to left field that scored Daniel Murphy. Other than that, the Mets were thoroughly shut down by Royals' starter Johnny Cueto, who threw a complete game. The Mets recorded just two hits against him, both singles by Duda.
