Meet the Mets

Yoenis Cespedes is ready to play again after an injury scare on Wednesday night. Not so much for Wilmer Flores and Juan Uribe, however. And Steven Matz's back is threatening his spot on the postseason roster. Could Bartolo Colon be on standby for the game four start?

If Matz must miss the Division Series, the Mets have discussed the possibility of using a three man rotation featuring Jacob deGrom twice, Noah Syndergaard twice, and Matt Harvey once.

Hansel Robles will appeal his suspension, pushing his potential timeout into the 2016 season.

If you didn't know, the members of the band Yo La Tengo are all Mets fans and they went to a game together in August.

Ron Darling will announce the NLDS series between the Mets and Dodgers, which will probably upset Dodgers fans who think he's biased.

Speaking of biased, Yankees play by play man and "7th place in the ratings" talk show host Michael Kay said Mets fans can "choke on their own bile". The comment came after Mets fans corrected him on Twitter when he insinuated Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard weren't power pitchers. We'll have to take you at your word, numero seven.

Sandy Alderson's dry sense of humor is as present as ever.

This is a great piece remembering the 1973 division clinching victory.

Around the NL East

Jon Heyman reported the Nationals will let Matt Williams go at the end of the season but keep GM Mike Rizzo.

The Phillies are trying to make the entire NL East as miserable as they are. Please no, 2007-14 was enough.

The Braves shut out the Cardinals 4-0 behind Julio Teheran. Meanwhile, Paco Rodriguez had Tommy John surgery and will miss all of 2016. In related news, I had no clue the Braves acquired Paco Rodriguez in the Alex Wood trade.

Add Bo Porter to the list of Marlins managerial candidates who've interviewed for the job.

Around the Majors

With the Mets rained out, the Dodgers picked up a half game lead for home field advantage with a win over the Padres.

September success really doesn't matter for teams entering the postseason.

Mike Francesa shopping for champagne bottle corks ("cawks") from MLB postseason celebrations is great.

Is baseball out of touch for shaming a group of female fans who were taking selfies in the crowd a few days ago?

James Corden of The Late Late Show on CBS took the field with the Angels to learn the finer points of baseball.

This Date In Mets History

Todd Zeile's last career at bat ended in a home run in 2004. Jeez, that was a sad year.
