The Mets have officially named Jacob deGrom the Game 1 starter in the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The National League's Rookie of the Year last season, deGrom has had a great sophomore season, too. He has a 2.60 ERA and 2.74 FIP in 187 innings over 29 starts so far this year and will make one last regular season start on Sunday in the Mets' series finale against the Nationals.
The Mets figure to use Noah Syndergaard in Game 2 of the series and Matt Harvey, whose workload will continue to be managed as the Mets work their way through the playoffs, in Game 3. Given the scheduled off-days in the series, deGrom could start a potential Game 5 on extra rest or Game 4 on short rest, and Syndergaard could start Game 5 on regular rest.
And depending on the context of the series of Steven Matz's health, either Matz himself or Bartolo Colon could get a start in Game 4 of the opening series.
