Mets playoffs: Matt Harvey gets stuck in traffic, misses mandatory workouts

Even Matt Harvey gets stuck in traffic, just like the rest of us.

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

Mets starter Matt Harvey missed mandatory workouts today at Citi Field but will still start Game 3 of the NLDS. Harvey was reportedly stuck in traffic while his teammates were preparing for their matchup with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The right-hander called pitching coach Dan Warthen from his car, and later apologized to his teammates for his absence.

"Unfortunately, today I screwed up," Harvey told reporters. "There's not really anything else to say. They know what happened. I told everybody and apologized to everybody and told them it's not going to happen again. It's never happened before. Unfortunately, it happened kind of at a bad time, a mandatory time. Truly I just screwed up."

Collins has indicated that there will be discipline for Harvey, but that it will be handled in house. For his part, David Wright balked when asked to comment on the situation: "You have to ask Matt. I'm concerned about the guys that are here. The guys that are here, we had a great workout. You'll have to talk to Matt about that."
