MLBPipeline.com has announced its All-Arizona Fall League team, essentially an end-of-the-season All-Star team, and Mets prospect Dominic Smith was included at first base.
Smith, the Mets' 2013 first-round draft pick, played for the Salt River Rafters of the AFL and hit .362/.483/.511 over 14 games. Smith missed nearly two weeks of the AFL season due to a muscle strain. His glove and ability to make contact are what have been getting the most attention, and Pipeline ranked him seventh among AFL players this year. Earlier this year, Smith was named MVP of the Florida State League, and we ranked him seventh on our mid-season list of the Mets' top prospects.
No other Mets prospect made the Arizona Fall League Top 20 or the All-AFL team. The Mets had also sent shorstop Gavin Cecchini, second baseman Jeff McNeil, knuckleball pitcher Mickey Jannis, and right-handed pitcher Beck Wheeler to Arizona this year.
