Meet the Mets
Bartolo Colon, whose one-year contract with the Mets includes a bonus if he wins a Silver Slugger award, wants to help the Mets win a World Series in 2016. He's happy to work in the rotation or the bullpen, and he's been working out with fellow Mets pitchers Hansel Robles in the Dominican Republic in the offseason. Here are some of the best Bartolo GIFs.
SNY is still working on a new contract for Keith Hernandez. The booth just wouldn't be the same without him, though it'd be surprising if the two sides don't reach a deal.
Around the National League East
The Washington Nationals are reportedly moving on from a trade with the Reds that would have netted them Brandon Phillips. The Reds haven't been able to persuade Phillips to waive his no-trade rights, as the veteran second baseman sought compensation in order to do so.
Around Major League Baseball
The Colorado Rockies signed Adam Ottavino to a three-year contract. The 30-year-old had been excellent in recent seasons but underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this year and missed most of the 2015 season.
Yesterday at Amazin' Avenue
The Mets needed to make room for Bartolo Colon on their 40-man roster, and they did so by designating catcher Johnny Monell for assignment.
As has been the case for the entire offseason, the Mets are interested in Denard Span. The update here is that they will meet with him shortly after New Year's Day as he showcases his health for his potential suitors.
This date in Mets history
Today is David Wright's birthday. The Mets' captain is now 33 years old.
