Ben Zobrist is choosing between the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs, according to Ken Rosenthal, who says the teams' offers are comparable and it's just a matter of which team Zobrist wants to join. The Mets have been waiting on Zobrist's decision for much of the day today, and it sounds like he will make it soon.
Since the offseason started to take shape in mid-November, Zobrist has reportedly been the Mets' top target. The 34-year-old hit .276/.359/.450 with 13 home runs in 2015 for the A's and Royals. He spent the majority in the field of his time playing second base but played some games in the corner outfield, as well. Looking ahead to 2016, he's said to prefer primarily playing one position: second base.
Zobrist's other primary suitors—recently, at least—had been the Giants, Nationals, and Dodgers. The Cubs emerged as a potential destination for him today, and it sounds like the other teams are out at this point.
