The minor league season got underway yesterday, and all four of the Mets' full-season affiliates played. The High-A St. Lucie Mets were definitely the highlight, as they were the only one of the four to win their game, and several prospects of note fared well in the season debut. They also happened to be the only one of the four affiliates to open the season at home.

Triple-A - Las Vegas 51's (0-1)_______________________________________

FRESNO 2, LAS VEGAS 1 (Box)

The 51s weren't able to muster up much at the plate, even though opposing starting pitcher Brad Peacock walked five in four-and-two-thirds innings of work. But Steven Matz made his first start of the season, and it went fairly well.

  • SS Matt Reynolds, 0-3, 2 K, 1 BB
  • 2B Dilson Herrera, 0-4
  • C Kevin Plawecki, 0-4
  • LF Eric Campbell, 1-3, 1 R, 1 K, 1 BB
  • DH Johnny Monell, 1-3
  • 3B Danny Muno, 0-2, 1 BB
  • LHP Steven Matz, 5.1 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 4 K, 3 BB—That's a perfectly decent first start of the season for the Mets' second-ranked prospect

Double-A - Binghamton Mets (0-1)_____________________________________

AKRON 14, BINGHAMTON 5 (Box)

Well, that's not how any team wants to start a season. With a four-run fifth inning, the B-Mets had a three-run lead heading into the bottom of that frame before things fell apart. They surrendered three, five, one, and four runs in each of the final four frames, respectively. And yes, Jayce Boyd really did play in the outfield.

  • RF Jared King, 1-5, 1 R, 3 K
  • CF Brandon Nimmo, 0-4, 1 RBI, 2 K
  • 2B T.J. Rivera, 2-5, 1 2B, 1 R, 2 RBI
  • LF Jayce Boyd, 1-4
  • 3B Dustin Lawley, 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, E
  • C Xorge Carillo, 2-3, 1 R, E
  • SS Gavin Cecchini, 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB
  • RHP Matt Koch, 4.2 IP, 3 R, 7 H, 2 K, 0 BB
  • RHP Domingo Tapia, 0.2 IP, 5 R (4 ER), 4 H, 0 K, 0 BB
  • LHP Chase Huchingson, 1.2 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 2 H, 1 K, 2 BB, E
  • LHP Adam Kolarek, 1 IP, 4 ER, 4 H, 3 K, 1 BB
  • Advanced-A - St. Lucie Mets (1-0)_____________________________________

ST. LUCIE 7, BRADENTON 2 (Box)

This was definitely the best game of the night in the system, as the Mets beat the Marauders.

    • CF Champ Stuart, 2-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R
    • 2B Jeff McNeil, 1-4, 1 K, 1 BB
    • LF Michael Conforto, 2-4, 1 BB
    • 1B Dominic Smith, 2-4, 1 2B, 1 R
    • SS Amed Rosario 3-5, 1 RBI, 1 2B, 2 R
    • 3B Jhoan Ureña, 3-5, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 K
    • RHP Robert Gsellman, 5.1 IP, 1 R, 7 H, 2 K, 1 BB—This wasn't Gsellman's first career appearance for St. Lucie, but he should be in St. Lucie to stay—until, of course, he earns a promotion to Binghamton.

    Low-A - Savannah Sand Gnats (0-1)__________________________________

    WEST VIRGINIA 7, SAVANNAH 6 (10) (Box)

The Gnats had a lead for most of the game, gave up three runs in the eighth, tied the game with one run in the ninth, and ultimately lost the game in the tenth inning.

    • SS Luis Guillorme, 1-1, 1 R, 1 RBI, 4 BB
    • RF Wuilmer Becerra, 1-5, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 2 K
    • RHP Corey Oswalt, 5.2 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 10 H, 4 K, 0 BB

    Star of the Night

Jhoan Ureña, who along with Amed Rosario is skipping Savannah to start the year after playing for Brooklyn last year, had a great debut. Rosario was right there with him, of course, so we'll go with calling them co-stars of the night.

    Goat of the Night

Domingo Tapia's move to the bullpen looks like it could be permanent, and while this wasn't his first professional relief appearance, it was not an encouraging one.
