After his latest rehab appearance last night for Binghamton, in which he gave up a leadoff double before retiring the next three batters in order, Vic Black should be returning to the Mets very soon. In three innings of work between St. Lucie and Binghamton, Black has allowed one earned run on two hits. He has also walked two and notched two strikeouts.
Once Black is promoted, the Mets will most likely send Eric Goeddel back to Triple-A Las Vegas, but the possibility exists that Rule 5 draft acquisition, left-hander Sean Gilmartin, could be the one to go. The Mets currently have three lefties in their major league bullpen—Jerry Blevins and Alex Torres being the other two—and sending Gilmartin down would require the Mets to first offer him back to the Minnesota Twins or work out a compensation deal with them to keep him in the Mets organization.
Gilmartin has a 6.00 ERA over four appearances this season. Lefties have hit .222 against him in nine at-bats. Goeddel hasn't allowed a baserunner in two appearances spanning one and a third innings.
