The Mets beat the Braves 7-1 this evening at Citi Field to extend their winning streak to nine games. While neither team scored for the first several innings of the game, the Mets broke through with four runs in the fifth inning, thanks in part to a big error by Braves second baseman Philip Gosselin with the bases loaded.
The Mets tacked on a run in the sixth and two in the eighth, and Jon Niese gave up just one run in six-and-two-thirds innings. The Mets’ bullpen finished off the game without allowing any runs, and Kevin Plawecki went 2-for-4 with a couple of runs scored in his major league debut.
