Final Score: Mets 8, Yankees 2—A Harvey Day for the ages

The Mets offense came back to life and Matt Harvey was Matt Harvey. It was just awesome.

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

If a Mets fan was asked to visualize his or her ideal Harvey Day, it would be hard to imagine it looking any different from today's contest. After losing both the game and their winning streak last night, the Mets absolutely unloaded on the Yankees this afternoon in the Bronx. Lucas Duda and Eric Campbell both hit home runs in the first and sixth innings, respectively, Juan Lagares went 4-4, and Kevin Plawecki drove in three runs, two of which came on his first homer in the majors in the fourth. In terms of pitching: Matt Harvey dominated the Yankees, with the exception of Mark Teixeira, who homered for the third time in two games in the seventh. Other than that, Harvey struck out seven, allowed only five hits, and was one out short of pitching a complete game. With all the talk of sore ankles and sore throats, Harvey was Harvey, and the Yankees just did not know how to handle it. Happy Harvey Day, indeed.
