Before the Mets' game against the Yankees this evening, manager Terry Collins told reporters that David Wright will begin baseball activities on Monday. Wright strained a hamstring late in the Mets' April 14 game, Matt Harvey's return to Citi Field. But he's reportedly been making steady progress in coming back from the injury.
In 35 plate appearances before the injury, Wright was off to a very good start. He's hit .333/.371/.424 with a 132 wRC+ so far this year. Eric Campbell has done a nice job filling in for him, but Wright's return will be a major boost for a team that has gotten off to a great start despite quite a few significant injuries. Wright is coming off his worst year as a major league hitter in 2014, but between spring training and the regular season thus far, he has looked a lot more like his usual self. Here's hoping he is back soon.
