The Mets were not sharp this evening at Yankee Stadium and found themselves on the wrong end of the rubber game of the three-game series, losing 6-4. A combination of not-so-great pitching by Jon Niese and terrible defense led to the Yankees scoring six runs in five innings. Niese was charged with four earned runs, which still isn't great by any means but is slightly better than if all six runs had been earned.
Before all that, the Mets actually led the game 2-0 after the top of the first. After falling behind by three in the bottom of the second, they scored twice in the third inning to make it a one-run game but did not score again in the loss.
