The Mets lost their second straight series on the road on the heels of their team-record win streak, falling tonight in Miami, 7-3. Giancarlo Stanton drove in three runs, including a massive two-run homer, and Ichiro Suzuki put away an otherwise close game with a three-run home run against Alex Torres in the eighth inning. Starter Bartolo Colon put in a workmanlike 6.2 innings despite not having his best command and allowed four runs on nine hits while being collared for his first loss of the year.
The Mets hit the ball well off of Miami starter Matt Latos, scoring three times for two separate leads by the third inning. Latos left in the fifth inning after suffering an apparent leg injury when he hit a leadoff single. The man who ran for him ended up scoring the game-tying run at the time, and the Marlins bullpen, aided by some nice defense, held the Mets in check the rest of the way.
Michael Cuddyer went 2-for-4 and had a two-run homer for New York. Kevin Plawecki also chipped in two hits.
