Meet the Mets

Jacob deGrom and the Mets beat the Rangers 5-0 last night in the penultimate game of the spring.

It looks like the Mets will go with a short bench and carry 8 relievers to start the season. Daniel Murphy is set to join the club for the season opener.

Matt Harvey is annoyed and wants the media to stop worrying about what he's doing off the field. Ted Berg writes that Harvey is with the Mets because he turned down a million dollar signing bonus out of high school.

We got good news yesterday as Cesar Puello has cleared waivers and is headed down to Vegas. Noah Syndergaard is on the cusp of a big league debut. Former Mets minor leaguer Logan Verrett is set to make the Rangers' roster.

Keith Hernandez is optimistic about the Mets in this Q&A. He also talked about Seinfeld royalties!

The expectations are high for Michael Cuddyer coming into 2015.

Around the NL East

Nationals GM Mike Rizzo is counting on Michael Taylor and Tyler Moore to pick up the slack in the outfield.

The Braves released Wandy Rodriguez and Mets killer Jose Constanza, among others yesterday.

It was a bad spring training for the Phillies. Good luck down there, guys.

Among the biggest Marlins killers in the NL East is David Wright.

Around the Majors

Josh Hamilton avoided a suspension and the Angels are pissed. The outfielder deserves better than a public trial.

Fangraphs previewed the National League East and they have the Mets projected for 2nd place in the division. They also made their season predictions.

What is the worst rule in baseball? Sam Miller says it's the nonsensical draft compensation rules.

New Twins ace Ervin Santana has been suspended 80 games for PEDs. That's not a good start.

Jarred Cosart of the Marlins was fined for placing illegal bets on sports but an investigation showed that he didn't bet on baseball.

Chris Owings is moving to 2nd base for the Diamondbacks, as Nick Ahmed will be the shortstop.
