The Mets dropped their first game of the year in Washington tonight, as Ryan Zimmerman hit a two-run home run off Jacob deGrom in the bottom of the first and the Mets were never able to tie the game. The Nationals didn't score again after that, but Jordan Zimmermann and Washington's bullpen held the Mets to just one run, which came on a single by Travis d'Arnaud in the second.
The silver linings in the game were deGrom's performance the rest of the way—six innings, six strikeouts, two walks—and Rafael Montero's pair of scoreless innings in his 2015 debut. And the Mets made more good contact than the final score suggests, but they found a way to hit the ball right at Washington defenders throughout the game.
