Jacob deGrom turned in the best performance by a Mets pitcher so far this year in dominating the Cardinals this afternoon, striking out 11 over 8 innings of work. The only baserunner he allowed came on a first-inning single by Matt Carpenter. He looked as good as that sounds, painting the black consistently and pretty much hitting any spot he wanted with his array of pitches. Jeurys Familia closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.
Lucas Duda continued his success against left-handed pitching, cracking two home runs off of southpaws: a solo shot in the sixth against starter Jaime Garcia and a three-run blast in the eighth to put the game away against Randy Choate, who had been brought in to face him. John Mayberry Jr. opened the scoring with a bases-loaded single in the fourth.
Michael Cuddyer went 3-for-3 with a walk, Daniel Murphy went 2-for-4, and Juan Lagares drew 2 walks in the leadoff spot. It was all good news for the Mets today.
