Final Score: Pirates 4, Mets 1 — Bad defense and worse offense doom the Mets

Noah Syndergaard wasn't bad, but didn't get much help from the offense or defense.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets largely dismissed the goodwill they had built up by splitting the Cardinals, with an awful first game in Pittsburgh. Noah Syndergaard got the start, and although he wasn't hit particularly hard, the hits were timely. Syndergaard got little help from his defense, as well, which likely accounted for three of the runs.

The offense continued it's horrid stretch, producing six hits, none of which were for extra bases. The team never really threatened, save for putting two men on in the ninth. Lucas Duda went on to pop a pitch up, and Michael Cuddyer grounded out to seal one of the Mets worse losses of the season.
