The Mets have won consecutive games for the first time since the ending of their glorious winning streak two weeks ago, beating the Orioles 5-1 tonight at Citi Field.
Jacob deGrom came back in a big way tonight, allowing six hits over seven innings while striking out nine along the way. His only real trouble came in the fifth, when he let up a run on a Jimmy Parades single to right. It wasn't his most effortless performance by any means, but it was refreshing to see deGrom work through a lineup with a handful of quality left-handed hitters without getting tagged.
The much-heralded Ubaldo Jimenez fared less well against the Mets' offense. Entering the game with a 1.59 ERA, Jimenez was spelled after the fourth having given up three runs on six hits. The first of those came on Dilson Herrera's ground ball single up the middle in the second, which was only Herrera's second hit since being brought up from Las Vegas. Curtis Granderson was responsible for the other two runs charged to Jimenez, as the Mets' leadoff hitter homered in the third and hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth that put the Mets up 2-0 and 3-0, respectively.
Against the Orioles' bullpen, Herrera struck again, this time hitting his first home run of the year off the railing in left field to put the game out of reach for the O's, and give the Mets a sweep.
