The Mets were blown out by the Blue Jays in Toronto this evening. The game wasn't always a blowout, though, as Jon Niese gave up three runs in seven innings. But the Mets turned to Akeel Morris—who had never pitched above High-A—to pitch the eighth, and he gave up five runs and recorded just two outs.
Of course, the runs allowed didn't really matter, as the Mets were shut out. They made good contact at times and had some baserunners, but they were mostly irrelevant. Mets hitters struck out eight times, walked just once, and had six hits in the game.
