Triple-A - Las Vegas 51s (39-30)_______________________________________

LAS VEGAS 11, FRESNO 5 (Box)

The 51's bats exploded for 11 runs, led by two three run home runs from Kirk Nieuwenhuis. Matt Bowman pitched well until the eight inning, when he allowed three runs, and the bullpen was able to finish off the game. Danny Muno, Johnny Monell, Alex Catellanos, Kirk, and Brandon Allen all had multi hit games.

  • LF Alex Castellanos: 2-4, 2 R, 2B; was hit by a pitch that started a bruhaha in the eight inning
  • CF Kirk Nieuwenhuis: 3-5, 2 R, 2 HR, 6 RBI; I still think Kirk is a better player than Ceciliani, and I'm glad the Mets got him back

  • SS Wilfredo Tovar: 0-4
  • RF Travis Taijeron: 1-5, R, 2B, 3 K

Double-A - Binghamton Mets (35-31)_____________________________________

NEW HAMPSHIRE 3, BINGHAMTON 2 (Box)

Brandon Nimmo contributed a single in his second game back with Binghamton, while Michael Conforto tripled and singled. On the other end of the spectrum, Gavin Cecchini continued his slump, going hitless in four at bats.

  • CF Brandon Nimmo: 1-4
  • LF Michael Conforto: 2-4, R, 3B, K
  • SS Gavin Cecchini: 0-4; the slump continues
  • SP Robert Gsellman: 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K

Savannah again kept pace with the Greenville Drive, beating Augusta to maintain a share of first place. Luis Guillorme, Eudor Garcia, and Vincente Lupo each had two RBI's, and Corey Oswalt delivered six-and-a-third innings of one run ball. The bullpen almost blew the lead, allowing three runs in the 8th, but David Roseboom was able to lock down the save.

BROOKLYN 3, STATEN ISLAND 2 (Box)

Brooklyn won its season opener in twelve innings over the Staten Island Yankees. Michael Bernal drove in Emmanuel Zabala with the winning run, and Gaither Bumgardner locked down the save to bring the marathon affair to a close. Star of the Night

Captain Kirk Nieuwenhuis. His continuing mission; to mash in new stadiums...to hit bombs off new pitchers, new teams...to boldly hit baseballs where no one has hit them before.

Goat of the Night

Gavin Cecchini, who was a major culprit of Binghamton's offensive ineptitude.
