For the first time since the start of the season, the Mets are under .500.
Bartolo Colon gave up four runs tonight. Two of them were on the board ten pitches into his outing, after he coughed up a double, two singles, and another double to the top of the Brewers' lineup. He held the score at 2-0 for the next few innings, but after he failed to cover first on a Ryan Braun ground ball in the fifth, he allowed two consecutive singles, the last of which came off the bat of Carlos Gomez to make the score 3-1. Scooter Gennett then hit a solo homer to right in the sixth to make it 4-1, and put the game well out of reach for the Mets, who were busy making Brewers' starter Jimmy Nelson look unstoppable.
The Mets managed only two hits off of Nelson tonight. Mercifully, one of them was a Curtis Granderson solo homer in the fourth that spared the Amazins the indignity of being shut out. Other than that, there was nothing to report.
