It might finally be time, Mets fans. Ken Rosenthal is reporting that his sources say the Mets are considering calling up left-handed pitcher Steven Matz, either in place of another pitcher or as part of a six-man rotation. The club has not confirmed the news, but Rosenthal said that "something...seems to be in works."
With Dillon Gee already in Las Vegas, Matz could be taking the spot of Jonathon Niese or Bartolo Colon. The Mets could also be considering a six-man rotation again. However, the team has an off day on Monday, nine straight games, an off day on July 9, and then four days off for the All-Star break the following week, so a six-man rotation could prove difficult—and perhaps pointless—to implement with so many off days.
So far with Triple-A Las Vegas this year, Matz has gone 7-4 with a 2.19 ERA, 94 strikeouts, and 31 walks in 90 innings.
Rosenthal said that more information is likely coming later today, so stay tuned!
