The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but it was short-lived, as Noah Syndergaard got rocked in the worst outing of his young career.
Syndergaard labored through the second inning, during which the Padres tagged him for four runs on five hits, not all of which were well-struck. The big hit in that frame was a two-run triple by Will Venable down the right field line. The Pad Squad added a run in the third inning on a Cory Spangenberg RBI triple, and finished their scoring with a two-run home run off the bat of Derek Norris in the fourth inning.
Syndergaard's peripherals were outstanding -- 10 strikeouts, 0 walks, plenty of swinging strikes -- but, like Andrew Cashner on Monday night, they were accompanied a ton of runs.
The Mets' lineup couldn't get much going against Padres starter Ian Kennedy. Michael Cuddyer and Wilmer Flores notched RBI singles in the first and sixth innings, respectively, but that was it for our heroes. On to the next one.
