The night after striking out four times in his Diamondbacks debut, Wellington Castillo drilled a two-run homer with two outs in the seventh which was the difference tonight. Up until that point, Bartolo Colon (L, 8-4) was masterful. Colon finished with five hits allowed, one walk, and seven strikeouts over seven innings, along with the two earned runs.
The Mets only run came via a solo home run by Juan Lagares, as the offense had another frustrating evening. New York managed ten hits but left eight on base while grounding into four inning-killing double plays, including one that ended the game after the Mets got two on with one out in the ninth.
Colon went 1-for-3 at the plate with a rip single, which gives him a higher batting average (.167) than two position players in the lineup tonight (Danny Muno, Anthony Recker). Lucas Duda was 0-for-4 with 3 LOB and is currently mired in a 2-for-25 skid.
The Mets now are 2-4 on this West Coast swing, and look to Jacob deGrom to try and split this series tomorrow afternoon.
