The Mets have officially placed left-handed pitcher Steven Matz on the disabled list with a partially torn left lat muscle. They have recalled infielder Danny Muno from Triple-A Las Vegas to take his place on the roster.
Called up recently, Matz was excellent in his first two major league starts. He threw 13.2 innings between them with a 1.32 ERA, 14 strikeouts, and five walks. He and the Mets' other five starting pitchers have been excellent over the past couple of weeks, which has helped keep the team over .500 for the season as the offense has really struggled.
Muno has been back and forth between the big leagues and Vegas this year. In 27 plate appearances with the Mets, he has hit just .083/.185/.083. With Vegas this year, he has hit .295/.372/.395 in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. He has split his time in the field in Vegas between second base and third base.
