Final Score: Cardinals 3, Mets 2—Good pitching, bad hitting

Noah Syndergaard was good, but the Mets' offense wasn't.

Scott Kane-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets lost to the Cardinals tonight in the first of three games in St. Louis. Noah Syndergaard allowed just two runs in seven innings of work, but the Mets had a lot of trouble scoring after Curtis Granderson began the game with a home run. The bullpen gave up one run, too, which didn't exactly help since the Mets were able to score one run in the ninth but came up one run shy of a tying the game.

So the Mets pitched pretty well overall but didn't hit. That sounds familiar.
