Bartolo Colon had a forgettable game, allowing seven runs in four-and-a-third innings as the Mets fell to the Cardinals 12-2. Alex Torres had another brutal outing, giving up four runs in garbage time, though he was hurt by a Ruben Tejeda error. Torres hasn't had a clean outing since May 23, and with a seemingly superior option in Logan Verrett currently in the minors, it's worth wondering if Torres could lose his spot sooner rather than later.
The Mets' lineup did manage twelve hits, a relative offensive explosion. They left eleven runners on, however, going a combined 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Michael Cuddyer homered, offering a flicker of hope that he can deliver on the free agent contract (and lost draft pick) that the Mets gave him this offseason.
