Wow, what an eventful Wednesday evening. Rumors started flying prior to game time that the Mets were working on a trade for a big bat and that trade appeared to come to fruition in the form of Carlos Gomez for Zack Wheeler and Wilmer Flores. With word all over social media, Flores found out during the game and became emotional about leaving the only organization he's ever known. Once the game ended, word came out that the deal had fallen through due to the Mets' worry about the condition of Gomez's hip. Of course Gomez's agent Scott Boras says his client is okay. Did we get it all? Yikes.

This leaves the Mets back at the drawing board with a little over a day left before the trade deadline and Mark Simon thinks they should target Rajai Davis. Will they make another move or continue to act like a small market team? Commissioner Manfred visited the club yesterday.

In better news, Travis d'Arnaud has completed his rehab assignment and appears on target to be activated from the DL on Friday.

We enjoy a good meme and so we have to share this, as Wilmer Flores received the "Coming Home" treatment.

Jenrry Mejia's second positive PED test came while he was suspended for his first failed test.

Around the NL East

The Blue Jays roughed up Jerome Williams and the Phillies 8-2.

The Braves were swept by the Orioles, as they lost 2-0.

Bryce Harper's home run propelled the Nationals to a 7-2 victory over the Marlins.

Around the Majors

Cole Hamels is an ex-Phillies pitcher, as he's headed to the Rangers.

A number of names from the Marlins and Braves including Mat Latos, Michael Morse, Alex Wood, and Jim Johnson appear to be changing hands in a 3-way trade including the Dodgers.

Yoenis Cespedes is apparently one of a number of Tigers who will be available prior to Friday's deadline.

The Royals are trolling former Mets beat reporter Andy McCullough by referencing Trap Queen in all of their quotes.

Marlins Park featured the sounds of smooth jazz and farts over the PA system during Nationals BP yesterday.

This Date In Mets History

Happy birthday to Casey Stengel! Not a happy birthday to the Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano trade.
