Final Score: Mets 8, Dodgers 0—Los Angeles meets the Matz

The Mets beat the Dodgers easily today.

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Steven Matz was excellent in his second major league start, and the Mets scored runs in bunches to beat the Dodgers easily this afternoon in Los Angeles. With that, the Mets took two of three games from the National League West leaders and exit the weekend at 42-41 on the season.

Matz labored a bit a times but threw six scoreless with eight strikeouts. He walked two and allowed just two hits. And the Mets had no problem scoring runs, with Curtis Granderson, Wilmer Fores, Daniel Murphy, Ruben Tejada, and Juan Lagares each collecting at least two hits. And the Mets scored all of those runs without hitting any home runs, a fairly rare feat. And speaking of rare feats, Logan Verrett pitched the rest of the game for the Mets to earn a three-inning save.
