The Mets made a big trade yesterday, as they got Yoenis Cespedes from the Tigers in exchange for minor league pitcher Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa. Cespedes has quite a backstory and should be an instant upgrade to the Mets' offense. Here's what's being said about the deal.
- Newsday's David Lennon loves the trade and tells Sandy Alderson to drop the mic in his lede.
- Mike Vaccaro of the Post writes that Alderson has given Mets fans reason to believe again. Ken Davidoff sounds pretty optimistic about that, too.
- In a review of all of the Mets' recent trades, Maria Guardado of the Star-Ledger writes that Sandy Alderson can take a bow.
- Andy Martino of the Daily News writes that the Mets' move shows they are in win-now mode, which is "at least something different."
- The Mets are now playoff contenders, says Bob Klapisch.
- Jason Fry had nice things to say about the trade in his write-up of last night's game at Faith and Fear in Flushing, which is also worth a read for the Wilmer Flores parts.
- Tyler Kepner of the Times reminds us that Cespedes is a rental.
- Keith Law isn't in love with this trade for the Mets.
- Jonah Keri sees Michael Fulmer as a pitcher who could be in the Tigers' rotation as soon as next season but seems pretty okay with the trade from the Mets' perspective.
- Over at Fangraphs, Dave Cameron writes that the Mets got Cespedes for not much more than the Orioles gave up to get Gerardo Parra.
- Matt Cerrone and Maggie Wiggin of MetsBlog talked about Cespedes on their podcast.
- Bless You Boys seems pretty happy with the deal for the Tigers, which makes sense.
- Rising Apple sees the Cespedes trade as something the team and its fans very much needed.
- Well done, says Just Mets.
